Maijariitta Karhulahti on kuva- ja tekstiilitaiteilija, joka työskentelee aihe- ja materiaalilähtöisesti itsenäisesti sekä sekä osana moni- ja poikkitaiteisia työryhmiä. Teosten ilmaisukeinot ja tekniikat valikoituvat prosessikohtaisesti, mutta niitä yhdistävä tekijä on usein tekstiili, materiaalin läsnäolo ja taiteilijan toimijuus.

Teosten materiaaleina ja kanssatoimijoina ovat usein kierrätetyt, perityt ja löydetyt materiaalit ja esineet. Keskeisellä sijalla työssä on performatiivisuus ja eläytyminen sekä materiaalin tuntu ja olemus ja sen luomat assosiaatiot muistoihin, mielikuviin ja tunteisiin.

Maijariitta Karhulahti is a visual and textile artist who works both independently as well as as part of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary working groups. Her work can be both material-driven or be based on a subject  The means of expression and techniques of the work are selected process-specifically, but the unifying factor is often textile, the presence of the material and the artist's own agency.

The materials and there for collaborators of the art work are often recycled, inherited and found materials and objects. Performativity and empathy, as well as the feel and essence of the material and the associations it creates with memories, images and emotions, are central to the work.
